Animals should have rights - and rightfully so they have them in the US. It is unfortunate that other countries treat their animals so badly, but it is really not our problem. All you can do is treat all the animals you come in contact with the best possible.

Animals have the same rights as all humans do! They have the right to Freedom of Speech, and to Keep and Bear Arms, and you can't make them testify against themselves, and they should have an attorney if they're ever charged with a crime.
Okay, I'm kidding. Animals don't have rights. It's all in knowing what a "right" is in the first place. People that talk about "animal rights" haven't a clue what a right is.

Yes! Animals have the same basic desires we do: They want to live, to be free from pain, to eat, to sleep, to reproduce, etc.
I believe that, within reason, animals should have rights. Obviously, not the same rights as humans, but rights, all the same...
It is a violation of my rights to keep me locked in a cage and force me to reproduce so that someone can benefit from my offspring. It is a violation of my rights to keep me locked in squalor where I am injected with growth hormones, and denied medical assistance.
Why should this be different for animals? Food for thought, watch this trailer...

Is it great to treat an animal 'humanely'?? Yes indeed.. in fact it is commendable... however, animals do not have rights..... they are not human..... they do not have complete cognitive thought... while we like to imagine that they do, and imagine emotions being in there... NONE of this has been proven at all... and if we give rights to some of the ones we consider 'smart' or 'cute', do we then have to be indiscriminate and give rights to all of them including the lowly cockroach and vermin mice????
So... IMHO... Animals do not have, nor should they have, "rights"

yes they should . but in some cases we have to do research on some . it my be to save a human life . i dont mean to make a animal life sound any less than a human life but thats how it is . i hunt deer for food while they are in season if we didnt hunt them there would be so many that they would die off from lack of food getting sick etc. i love my pets. and im not a vegatarian by no means. but as far as live stock cattle sheep etc . if they are killed for food its quick and easy. and they taste so good with some taters.

Rights or privileges? To have either you must be able to accept the responsibility of having them. If you mean should they be treated humanely, of course. That is a responsibility of a pet owner, however, not the pet.

No, animals should not have rights because they are not sentient, but they should have laws that protect them from abuse. And yes, those laws should be enforced with a sense of priority and perspective. You shouldn't bust a guy for kicking his goat when he's got his wife locked in the house.

I know a few people who would answer this question with," As soon as they pay their taxes, we will give them certain rights."
