The main difference is the way in which you use the two verbs. Pretend takes another verb or a clause beginning with the pronoun "that". You pretend to do something, or pretend that something is something. The verb "feign" has to take a direct object. You feign indifference (i.e. pretend that you're not bothered about something); you feign sleep (i.e. pretend that you are asleep), or you feign death (i.e. pretend to be dead).

I hope this helps.

They have nearly the same technical meaning: to present the appearance of something which is false. However, feign has a slightly more negative connotation than pretend. If one feigns something, it is assumed that the intent is deceitful. The word pretend has more positive associations, since it is linked in the mind with childhood play.

Pretend is to pretend.....feign is to "fake" something.

Pretending is creating an imaginary scenario.

feign is when you are acting, pretend; it's a verb. You're trying to pass it off as real.

Pretend is a much more broad word, it can be a verb or adjective. When used as a verb, you are NOT necessarily trying to pass it off as real.
