I have until March to buy a new Sony TV. (Giftcard only good for Sony) I don't know when I should buy a new one. Some friends say after turkey day, others after x-mas, still more say wait until the superbowl… Ideas?

Too add details: The giftcard can be used for any Sony purchase, as long as it is used by March 31.

Thanks for the replies!

In January after Christmas is probably when they have the best sales.

I don't actually know anyone who bought a TV for the superbowl when they can buy it "for the family" for Christmas and secretly have a new sharp picture for the Superbowl without being accused of gluttony...

A couple weeks before, and up until the Super Bowl. The day after Thanksgiving Day (although it's a very busy day to shop at stores) is a peak for "lost leader" (i.e. when store promote a few products below cost to get people in the door) sale day. I prefer the day after Christmas -an underrated day for deals.

However, now that the internet is so popular, deals from online sources are probably the best places to save the most money -even after you factor in the shipping costs (if any).

While I was in college I used to sell Home Theater at Best Buy. The corporate strategy is to try to keep a consistent flow of business year round with various sales. The day after Thanksgiving is a great time to get a lot of really cheap **** of no quality. With the ultra-competitive home entertainment business my advice is walk in and ask for a deal and see what they tell you. Stores like Circuit and Best Buy ALWAYS needs to sell product being that tehy are public companies with quarterly earnings expectations.

the absolute best time for purchasing almost any item is right after christmas and early January.
Reason:
Stores bagin year inventories and in order to reduce not only the time it takes to do it, but also the amount of goods they have they make sales. The store will have to pay taxes on all items in year-end inventory, so they would rather reduce the cost and sell the item then pay taxes on items that are depreciating in value anyway due to the new year. Hope this helps.

If your present TV works okay, and assuming the card allows you to benefit from discounted prices, then buy it when there are the biggest seasonal sales. One is right after Thanksgiving and the other right after Christmas. But the longer you wait, the later the period your guarantee will cover, and the model or models your card allows you to buy may have been improved as well.

When you have the money to buy one.... LOL J/K Naw it depends on the manufacturer man every maufacturer comesout with their new models @ different times.. You evedently have access to the internet it is information highway. Go to the manufacture of your choice and see when they are coming out with new model and then go a few weeks in advance and buy the older model you will then get a good deal and be pretty close to new technology without busting your checking account... Good luck....

Most TVs go on sale after the end of football season (IE the superbowl) so that is when you could find one for the cheapest.
