it depends on the weight, height, and the ability to hold their own head upright. read the manufacturer label on the booster seat if you're unsure.

it varies on your state, your childs age and childs weight.

here in pa its back facing for children age 1 or 20 lbs, then front facing until booster seat ready.

check the booster box for height weight requirements/max's.

8 years or 80 lbs is also the 'dont have to be in a booster anymore!' range :) i also use the 'can the child bend at the knees while sitting in the seat' rule. it works!

there is no accurate age. It all matters in height. For example, a child "should be" four foot eleven to be out of a booster seat. So if the child is tall, it can be a booster seat, if it is short, keep it in.

States may have their own specific requirements, but here is a general guide:

A child needs a car seat without a built-in harness up to 80 lbs. and 54 inches in height.

You can also check the government website for more information.

It's more about size and weight than age. Look at the specifications for the car seat you have.

It has more to do with the weight of the child rather than how old he/she is. Check with your local hospital and / or police dept and they will give you the guidlines for the state you live in.
