When we were last there, we were recommended by a friend living in France to try the Brasserie St Quentin in 243 Brompton Road, SW3 2EP, near South Kensington Station and convenient if you've just been doing a few museums nearby. You can book a table on line (and take a peek at the menu for the day) or phone 020 7581 5131. If you like French food, that is the place! Authentic and inexpensive.

Ciao Bella on Lambs Conduit Street - good Italian, very reasonably priced.
Also recommend The Quality Chop House and The Medcalf, both in Exmouth Market. Neither are too expensive.

overlook Brick Lane! high quality has lengthy previous downhill there. For solid and cheap Indian eating places (like Brick Lane replaced into) flow to Tooting. Drummond street (close to Euston station) provides countless places serving low priced and delicious Indian vegatarian nutrition.
