My daughter just had an MRI of the brain and it came back saying her pitiuatary gland is enlarged, the doctor said it could just be because she's a teenager, but I don't think thats the case, they are retaking the MRI to get a more indepth picture of the gland. She has been having bad headaches and her vision has decreased in one years time.

The pituitary is the 'master gland' the one that controls most of the other endocrine (ductless) glands. Your pituitary puts out follicle stimulating hormones so you ovulate, it regulates your growth, your thyroid function, water levels in your body, and many other things. You can live without a pitutiary, but you need hormone replacements for the rest of your life to make up for the lack.

Well, the pituitary gland is the master gland. It sits at the base of the brain and controls all the other glands in the body. It is no lager than the size of a pea and regulates all of the bodies natural cycles from growing to natural male and femal puberty. without this gland, the simple process of digesting food to a whole range of other important processes would be impossible. Some diseases of the pituitary gland are as follows: Acromegaly, Diabetes Insipidus, Hypopituitarism, Pituitary tumors, and Empty Sella Syndrome.

The pituitary gland is below the Hypothalamus and it firstly controls the other glands and also performs some of it's own functions like stimulating the other glands to perform their functions like thyroid gland to produce thyroxin and also enable absorption of water in the kidneys and so on. Inspite there are many other functions but it's biggest function is that it controls the other glands as said and explained above.

The primary function of the posterior pituitary gland is to send signals to nerve impulses from the hypothalamus. The gland secertes horomones,which is controlled by the brain.

The pituitary gland, for all that it is so small, actually serves a lot of purposes. Most are associated with growth- such as what happens during the teen years.

the pituatary glands controls certain hormones. people with enlarged glands can tend to be very tall. others with stunted glands tend to be short, it can also overproduce hormones that contribute to sexual desires, appetites, sweat glands, and so on. it also works along with the thyriod. they are part of the metabolic system. good luck.
