which measure tells me howhard the subs will hit...watts, amps, db's, etc....

It's a combination of watts, Db's and the type of enclosure. For the most part 400 watts RMS is a good starting point.

If you have money to spend get the Kicker comp subs, they dont look special but trust me, your highs and lows will sound so much better than if you got some crapy cheap subs. Also you can try volvenhaag,they are rather cheap and are good but only if u have a great amp, like 800w. Eclipse woofers are good, you dont need a real stong amp for em and they dont cost that much. basically if you see a brand that isnt well known you are taking a gamble on em but if they are cheap then you wont loose much if they can perform.

IMO a boston g5 is the best bang for the buck. you wont find a woofer that sounds better. plus its a low rms, which mean that you dont need a huge amp to power the thing. and it hits really hard. its only $400 new, but i have seen them go on ebay for less then 200, so its definatly worth checking out. but if you just want pure bass, go pioneer premier. hope this helps.
