My cat Babaloo is awsome. She's increadibly loving and sweet, and adores people. She's friendly & outgoing and is full of spirit. Over the last two weeks, she's started screaming. Sometimes, she'll start howling at 5:00 AM, last night, she pretty much screamed the entire night. Even if we shut her out of the bedroom, her howling keeps us up. Feeding her shuts her up for a while, but I don't think it's about food. I'm sleepy & at the end of my rope. What the hell does she want? What can we do to shut her up?

Your cat could be in heat, but chances are if you've had her a while and this is a new behavior, that's not what it is. Maybe you should take her to a good vet, and explain to him/her what Babaloo has been doing. It could be a UTI or some other kind of infection. Especially if feeding her quiets her for a little while. I hope you figure out what's wrong with your cat, and get some shut eye.

I just learned the hard way that when a cat who has previously been "a piece of cake" and an absolute sweetie starts to scream or cry there's a good chance she sick. (There is, of course, heat too.) Recently, my cat started to call me more or act like she wanted to get out in the middle of the night. I just thought she was an antsy to get out and run around etc., and I'd let her out.

I was thinking I had spoiled her in some way (after 15 years of the way things had always been) and thinking, too, because she was older she had gotten more vocal (the way many elderly people sometimes feel they have the right to just be vocal about stuff now that they're older). Last week she suddenly started to look as if she was looking for a place to get comfortable, but even then I thought she was just being her occasional antsy self.

She got very sick in what appeared to be a sudden way and was gone with three days of when she first started to seem to be looking for a place to get comfortable. I've lived with cats who died before and knew what they do, but this was also a behavior she would exhibit from time to time when she'd be in the house too much.

Anyway, my point is that after this and many other situations with pets in the past, I've learned that there is something wrong if the pet who doesn't usually do that starts doing it. My cat was eating and eating, so I didn't think she was sick. She didn't appear to have arthritis because she was still running and jumping up stairs, etc. Now I'm thinking she may have been diabetic or had some disease or infection.

I've learned (again, not just from this cat but from all the others I've had) that they don't show signs of illness until they're really, really, sick - and then its too late. I've also learned that I shouldn't have felt exhausted and impatient (on the inside - I tried not to show it on the outside) with what my cat was doing. She was apparently sick for months and I didn't even know it.

The good natured and generally awesome kitty doesn't yell for nothing. I don't know how I was too close to my own situation to see that. I guess its because the calmer, nice, pets tend to be most stoic and don't show the signs of discomfort early enough. My cat, who stayed out for a day but knew I was out looking for her, actually came back into the house and "went" in the house. I can't tell you how attached to me she was, and I think her all that loving care she got made her the kind of cat who took whatever ailed her in stride for the most part

What you said about food rings a bell for me because that's what was happening with my cat.

Oh no, sounds like she's in heat. Have you had her spayed? I had to live with a cat that was in heat for while until I could afford to get her spayed and it was miserable, for me and the cat. They stay in heat for months at a time also, it won't just stop in a day or two. Mine would stop for a day or so and I would think it was over and it would start again. You will have to get her spayed to stop the screaming. If she's already been spayed then I don't know what the problem could be.

First of all, is she fixed? Cuz if not she is probably just in heat and if you aren't going to breed her, she needs to be fixed. Also, sometimes cats get to a point where they get lonely by themselves. That is why I always try to have two. She is probably doing it while you are at work too. try leaving the tv on low and maybe a light. Sometimes even a sweatshirt that smells like you can help. I would also suggest calling your vet in case it is something more serious like a UTI which is more painful for them than for us.

Shes probably in heat. She is howling for a male cat to let them know shes in heat. If you want her to have kittens find a male cat if not you need to get her fixed at the vets and be wary of letting her out if other cats are around.

She is in heat--like a woman's menstrual cycle. Sometimes the symptoms can be screaming, rolling around manically on the floor, just flopping and crying--she needs to be fixed--um spayed/neutered--then it will stop. Good luck!!!

Well, is she spayed? If she is in heat she will do that. If that is the case, then she wants some male lov'n and you should get her spayed at the vet. Otherwise, I would say she is sick and still needs to see the vet.

She is in heat, this will usually last a couple weeks.. When she is out of heat takae her to the vet and have her fixed.. If you are low on finances take her to your local humane society they can do it there for cheaper..

Is she fixed? If not then maybe shes in heat. If she is fixed she could be in pain of some sort and I would call and ask you vet. My cat does that when she is playing with her toys. She will "catch them" bring them to my door and cry loudly and proudly of her "kill". Is yours playing with toys while she cries? I would call your vet and ask them.

She's in heat or in pain. If she has NOT been spayed, that would be my first guess. If she has, she could have a urinary tract infection. It is not uncommon. Especially if she eats food with high ash content.
