A lot of people suggest giving all illegals citizenship will solve the problem because there will be no more illegals. Would that really help? Aren't there reasons people have to follow laws when coming to America? Can you give me some reasons why there are immigration laws? (please don't answer if you plan on saying they serve no purpose, they are there for a reason.)

Of course we can't have an open door policy on immigration, that is preposterous....But for those who are here for years, work, are not on public assistance and children who are citizens, what do you propose? Send them back, come on, what about the humanity?

There are several reasons, some of which has already been posted.
The number one main issue is when an immigrant comes here legally we know who that person is, they have gone thru ALL of the screening processes that we have imposed, health and background checks. (very serious) It is proven that a lot of illegals are bringing in diseases, some of which we had already eradicated......and when some illegals get arrested here for a crime (other than just being here) it is learned that they are criminal offenders in their own country, many that come here are running from the law in their home countries.
We have a set limit for how many immigrants we let in for several good reasons, overcrowding, has anyone really put together how much of a burden these MILLIONS of illegals are on our natural resources and energy sources?? It can't be good.
When a legal immigrant comes here they have to prove they can fend for themselves (and their family), when an illegal comes they are usually the poorest of the poor (or so that is the excuse that keeps coming out) now if they are not paying into taxes how does that affect our schools and such? Illegals send their kids to our schools for free while home owners property taxes keep going up, how fair is that??
We seriously can not handle such a huge number of poor people, we have enough of those already we really don't need to be importing them in.

Immigration laws seem to serve a purpose when, and only when conscientious immigrants respect and follow them. There is no way of knowing how many visitors have remained with family and friends over the years - not interested in voting or traveling on. I suspect those who attempt to follow the rules are processed very slowly and painstakingly.

One of the reasons for immigration laws seems to be an accurate census which in turn helps to develop programs and businesses to accommodate groups of people, and of course to enrich the economy.

I don't believe giving out citizenship indiscriminately is the best or only alternative to current concerns with specific border problems between Mexico and the US. Perhaps if a plan were adopted to allow individuals to work, pay taxes and learn the English language over a period of five years - after which time their employment record, tax returns, and a minimum English proficiency test (oral and written) satisfied basic questions regarding their sincerity -welcome aboard.

Immigration laws absolutely have a purpose. They protect the interests of the Citizens and legal residents of the United States. Immigration laws protect against:

Terrorists, drug dealers, and other criminals- they have a harder time entering the country unnoticed when immigration laws are enforced

Overcrowding- by limiting the number of immigrants who can move to the U.S.

Strains on the Economy- Many illegal immigrants pay no taxes but use services such as schooling and medical care paid for by people who are working in the U.S. legally.

The purpose is to control the number of people and the type of people we allow into this country, not color or race but type. The fiber of a human being. His character. We don't need more criminals or murders so a back ground check is done to prevent this,a health check to ensure that our nation stays healthy. All the things a legal person goes thru.

Illegal imigration advocates often promote mass
illegal migration as a solution to global inequity of wealth.
While many of their claims of inequity may be true, the unconditional right to violate America's borders is not the solution. Poor people of the world can and should be helped where they are at. America should overhaul foreign aid to emphasize sustainable agriculture, libraries, and contraceptive access instead of giving cash and military hardware to despots. America should refrain from recruiting skilled people away from their homelands. With their perverted sense of fairness mass migration advocates generally choose immigrants and illegal aliens over the welfare of American citizens who bear the consequences and costs. The real issue is to whom fairness is due -- citizens or immigrants and illegal aliens. Immigration is not the solution to global problems

Sure. It's simple.

Immigration laws are in place so that our government controls how many people come in and at what pace. Immigration should always be cotrolled to the benefit of the country not to the benefit of immigrants. Once allowed in legally, the immigrants get to benefit from being a part of a nation whose people believe in following the laws, because we are, essentially, the ones who enacted the laws...being that the government - in theory - is by the people for the people.

There are limits to screen out the type of person we don't want and to limit the number of poor, for example, who come. We have to subsidize education and other services for the poor, so each poor immigrant drains our services and degrades them by just that amoung. Legal immigrants are given an 'allotment'. Illegal immigrants are budget busters. Opening the borders ignores the reason for immigration laws to begin with.

Inmigration laws are useful bcause you can control how many people come to america and what are they doing. The idea is thay you can know where are them, recollect more taxes and giving more protection, legal jobs and a limited amount of time for working and then they should come back to their own countries; and if they are doing really an important job, are useful for the american society and they want to stay in america, they should have the oportunity to do it

The immigration laws purpose is so we know who is in the country plus we can't really leave our country wide open it would cause chaos and the people who did not want to come in the country illegally will come in flocks which will be hard on our economy.

Population control and we have to know who's coming in the country for what reason.

If a terrorist came in the country with a dirty bomb we need to know this!

Our President Bush keeps saying we need to fight our enemies in their country, so we don't have to fight them here, but then he gives visas to terrorist and leaves the border wide open for them to enter.

In 2005 as many as 4 - 10- million illegal aliens crossed into the United States illegally.

During 2005, Boarder Patrol apprehended approximately 1.2 million illegal aliens; of those 165,00 were from Countries other than Mexico. Of the non-Mexican aliens, approximately 650 were from special interest countries. (Terrorist countries)

Homeland Security Report, Page - 4

There is an ever-present threat of terrorist infiltration over the Southwest boarder. U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement investigations have revealed that aliens were smuggled from the Middle East to staging areas in the Central and South America, before being smuggled illegally into the United States.

Members of Hezbollha have already entered the United States across the Southwest boarder.

U.S. Military and intelligence officials believe that Venezuela is emerging as a potential hub of terrorism in the Western Hemisphere. The Venezuelan government is issuing identity documents that could subsequently be used to obtain a U.S. visa and enter the country.

Laws are in place for a reason and should be followed. As for making things better if we legalize the illegals! thats a lie because then more will come because they will think they can get manesty too. Enforce the law bite the hate that pays them, then we can get something done.
