Not trying to sound ignorant, just trying to understand. Why do you have so many piercings and tattoos? Is it a compulsion or do you think it's a sign of art and beauty? I like piercings and tattoos myself but when it get too excessive, I'm not sure what to think.

I myself have been getting pierced since I was 14 years old. To this day I have had over 30 holes punched into me, including nose (and septum), lip (lower and upper), nose bridge, hand web, etc. I have always been a fan of body modification, and I actually make a fair amount of revenue as a body piercer/brander (www.badkarmabodyart.tk).
I think it's a personal choice for anyone, some people may get piercings to please their partner or to heighten sexual gratification. Some people get them to experience the pain. Personally, I get them because I think they are absolutely beautiful.
When I was 13, I was walking through the mall with my mother, and we saw this woman with a mohawk and a piece of metal through every possible spot on her face. I remember telling my mom "wow, she's amazing". She said "wow, she's atrocious." At that moment, I knew I wanted to look like that some day.
More or less, I think it's a personal thing, rather than a statement of any sort. Nothing against those who choose not to get modded, but I believe the majority of people who choose to be heavily modded are smart and secure enough to not buy into piercing or tattooing because it's part of some fad.
All in all, it's basically whatever makes you happy. Some people collect coins, some people get wasted, some people get piercings. That's life!

I have 4 tattoos and plan on getting several more. Each tattoo I have put in alot of thought as to why and what they represent. Some represent a loved one, like my daughter or my grandmother who passed and others symbolize something in my life that is important to me. As far as the piercings I have I generally just like the way they look much like the people who are covered in them. I'm sure some do it to get attention but I think that most do it because they like it and its a form of expression and art.

I see it as a way for me to express myself and its a way to change my body in slight ways. I see both as being an added accessory, just like wearing makeup and fancy jewelry. Plus, my overall style of things is fetish type wear(stilettos, corsets and other things like that are daily wear for me), so it fits my personality very well.
I have 23 piercings and plan to get more. I'm sure that number sounds huge, but you only see 12 of those if you pass by me on the street. I work as a piercer and try to encourage everyone to see piercings as a quick mod that you can remove later. I also love the knowledge about anatomy and the way piercings feel (i.e. getting them done, having someone play with some of them). I have also gauged two of my lobe piercings for reason that it fascinates me. I think its beautiful in a strange way that its hard to explain.
I have 4 tattoos and plan for many more. All of my tattoos are meaningful and remind me of past experience, they remind me of who I WAS and how I've changed. I'm planning a series of tattoos that will be a partial body piece. I'm sure that seems excessive, but I have it planned so none of it is ever visible at my day job (in an office)
If you ever have a passion, you go after it at all costs. And my passion is body modification.

I have many piercings, but no tattoos (yet). (Mainly b/c piercings can always be taken out, tattoos are permant... Need more thought before I get any.)
But with piercings, everytime, it's because it's sort of an artful and beautiful thing with me. Some girls wear makeup artfully or have fancy jelwery or even decorate themselves with clothes. For me, it's a kind of decoration, and I feel like it adds to who I am. I enjoy the way I look with them. Though, excessive for me is when someone has, like, literally (no joke, I've met people like this) 50 piercings in their face alone.

I do not have any tat's or piercings but I do like them.
Tattoos & piercings are: 1) a way of expressing oneself, 2) sign of art & beauty, 3) a tribute to an accomplishment, 4) memorial for a loved one.

I myself am more into the tattoos than piercings. I believe that tattoos are a form of art, as well as showing who a person is. Most people who have tattoo's usually have some sort of meaning or reason why they have each piece of work on their bodies.

Body modification is the same no matter how some people view it. Some people choose to express themselves through piercings and tattoos, some girls dye their hair and get fake nails and boobs, some people choose to stay completely natural, other people find different ways to adorn themselves.
Piercings and tattoos are just a personal expression. Nothing too major worth hyper analyzing.

~i have 2 tattoos & i want 1 more for sure. but all the ones i have are small & tasteful. i also have 5 piercings in my ears so that's not too many. i know where your coming from though. some people look downright freaky. the one i never understood, was making that huge hole in your earlobe-like the size of a quarter-what's the point of that!~

Tattoos are meant to be both meaningful and beautiful. I think that they are one of the best ways to express yourself and who you are. I have 3 tattoos. One goes all the way across my upper back from one shoulder to the other. The other 2 are smaller. I love every one of them because they remind me of who I am, who I was, and who I eventually want to be. They remind me of places I hace been in my life, and places I want to go. And I also have 15 piercings. (10 are in my ears) I have my tongue, nose, bellybutton, and both nipples. I think it is all about what makes you feel beautiful as a person.

I have 6 piercings (ears) and 2 tattoos, I wouldn't call it excessive, I just like them.
