Is effexor different from effexor XR?

I got effexor from the pharmacy....but I usually get Effexor xr...and the pills look different.

XR is time released. if you didn't get the right medication, Don't take it and bring it back to the pharmacy. They will have to double check your prescription.

Effexor is not time released. The xr is. You take it less often.

I believe the XR means it is time released.

Maybe they gave you a generic version.
