I work in an office all day and mostly sit at a computer where I do not get much exercise. I was wondering if it would help me any to put on arm and leg weights while I'm at work. Would it cause any damage? Will it help any at all? I really need to tone up and lose a few pounds. Thanks!

It wouldn't really cause any damage but, then again, it won't really do much good either aside from making you a little bit stronger.

The best thing to do if you are serious about losing a few and toning up is to start with what you are puttin in your mouth. Most people underestimate their total caloric intake by over 800 calories a day (5oo calories a day decrease will have you dropping about a pound a week of fat) There is a link at the bottom for the USRDA guidelines. It will give you a great headstart to see what you should be eating and how much

Then, you might start with taking 15 or 20 minutes out of your lunch hour or right after you get home from work, and go for a brisk walk 3 or 4 times a week

These two things done consisitently, will have give you 1000% better results than adding weights during the day

I have also included a link to and article about the basics of an exercise program if you want a little more information

Leg and arm weights will not help you lose weight while stiing, they'll only build arm and leg muscles, which unless you keep it up will eventually turn to flab. Movement burns calories, not weight lifting. Put on headphones and work to the song "Funky Town". Or not. LOL But really, eat a lite low calorie breakfast every morning, which starts your matabolism burning calories. Take up golf, or bowling or bicycle riding. Also, running is bad for the knees and other joints because your pounding your body with every step.

I would never use ankle weights. They put to much strain on your joints, especially your knee joints (having that extra weight swinging around the knee joint really strains the ligamnts and tendons and can cause nagging injuries). I have known to many people who have used them, and after a few months of use are having problems with their knees that they have never had before. I have never used or known anyone who used the wrist weights, but I would assume that the same principle would apply. I would suggest that you find around 30 minutes a day and go for a run or lift weights. This is a much better and safer alternative.

Please don't use either one! Think of what you do to tear a chicken wing or leg off a whole chicken that's been baked in the oven. In effect, that's what you're doing to your knees and shoulders and elbows when you wear either arm or ankle weights. Instead, get a large foam ball and rest your feet on it - pushing down on it with your legs. For your arms, get a small barbell - say 3 to 5 pounds - and curl it while your hands are idle.

I don't think it would hurt. It's not the kind of weight lifting where you are training to muscle failure so I can't see the harm in it. Just don't whap anybody or yourself!

get rid of those weights...all they can do is make you move around slower and probably mess up your knees
