I am a fast walking New Yorker so it takes me about 15 mins. For the average person it will take about 20 minutes. The most direct route in to take canal to church street and then head south on church until you get to the site. A more interesting route would be to take canal to centre street and then head south on centre past the courts and city hall. Then head west on vesey (make a right) and walk one more block to the WTC site.

Just so you know, Chambers and Canal street are parallel so if you walk down Canal looking for Chambers you won't see it.

Wear walking shoes!

I think it is a nice walk... along the way there are tons of shops to look at. If you walk along Canal until you get to Chambers Street you can then take Chambers down and see police plaza, city hall, the courthouse, which is cool to see. Then just walk down to Fulton street and head west and Ground Zero is right there. There's also the old church where people have put up pictures and other things to see around there. I think it's worth the walk, because there's a lot of stuff to see, and taking a cab down there is bad because the streets are really narrow and often times closed off for whatever reasons (probably construction).

Depending on where you are in Chinatown it could be about 5-15 minutes of walking.

By New York Standards, its very close, but on the way you might want to stop briefly and see the Courthouse used in Law and Order, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Municipal Building and City Hall. Even with those sights ints no more than 15 minutes.

It's less than 3/4 of a mile. If you walk fast, you can make it in under 15 minutes.
