Assuming you would be showing contemporary (Post 2000) art, I would get excited to see something that has not been done before, at least, something that 50 years from now, would be categorized as another -ism. Since art follows, or even precedes, societal changes, I am guessing we are due for a major upheaveal in the art world...as we are in our new global society. Painting has suffered since the Pop movement -- so many images, so little time -- premeated with instant and disposal (print) gratification to the point where few really appreciate the artform. Where are the Monets, Picassos and Pollocks of 2006? I would hope they are here buried but surviving somewhere under mounds of waste material created by the Masters of Light, the art fairies and self-grandized ebay artists. In any event, send me an announcement when you break the champagne next summer.

I like art that is well executed and can stand the test of the centuries. If it was placed on the street corner, if the trash collectors would toss it in the back of their truck, then it is not art, it is junk. The average person may not be able to define, art but they instinctively know it when they see it. It should be beauty and be restful to the soul.

I like realism with a hint of whimsical.

Fun stuff.

Family friends of our when I was growing up owned a gallery, and discovered that they were required to stock all the popular stuff, but by doing this they were able to cater to the more offbeat. So, you are off to a good start looking for public feedback.

Good LUCK!

A middle eastern artist's work depicting the regional suffering over there or the human feelings of middle eastern people. Art that communicates.
