NO, NO, NO. Please don't try and cure your dog with burnt motor oil unless you want to kill him.

It's a myth myth and only serves to poison your dog. Exposure to motor oil can cause rashes and skin destruction in severe cases. The hydrocarbons can be absorbed through the skin and cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. If motor oil is licked, the resultant vomiting can lead to aspiration of motor oil into the lungs, and pneumonia. Kidney and liver damage can result from motor oil dipping.

Please take your dog to the vet. Depending on the type of mange, a vet will prescribe the appropriate treatment.

Actually, putting any type of liquid or cream on your dog will just make the mange worse. There are 2 types of mange, one which IS contagious to humans!! If it is this kind, you will have red itchy dots on your skin. Anyways, don't use burnt motor oil and instead get your dog to the vet so that the DR. can get your dog some medicine!! Your dog is miserable!

this does not work and will only make your dog sick. You vet can give you dog some Ivermectin in the correct dosages or do a mitaban dip 3-4 times on your dog. Mange is a parasite that lives in the shaft of the hair folical and these 2 procedures will kill off the parasite by paralyzing it. If you dog is a herding breed then he can't do the Ivermectin, because Ivermectin in herding breeds can't block the paralizing effect and will slowly kill the dog.

It depends on how much liver damage you want to do to your dog..It doesn't always show up right away, but motor oil poisons the liver, and will eventually lead to extremely ill health or death..

However, Revolution works, and,as it is new, vets are encouraged too give the forst treatment free, so it would be worth your time to call the vets in your area and ask..It is just a spot-on treatment..

I agree with the previous posts; DO NOT PUT MOTOR OIL ON THE DOG.
Ivermectin is used to control mites. It is the same ingredient that is found in Heartgard.
This requires the prescription of a veterinarian. It is used with extreme caution in Collies, and comparable breeds.

My dad used black oil and sulfur. He just put it on the dogs and left it on them, it cured them up. The mange is small bugs that infest the skin, the black oil smothers them. People think this is crazy, but it works. And it has never harmed our dogs. Good Luck!

If this is a serious question and not a joke, then please take your dog to the vet ASAP. As the dog's caretaker, you are responsible for his health. Take him to the vet.
