All piercings hurt to an extent, but only the tongue swells as much as it does. Its more of a muscle, not flesh, so its tougher to pierce. I don't have a tongue piercing, wouldn't get one either due to all the oral hygiene issues (gum recession, bad breath, chipped teeth, weak enamel, the area under your tongue can be rubbed raw by the jewelry). However, I don't know how much it will hurt you. No one else can tell you this either.
But what will hurt you is the oral complications that will arise later in life and the learning how to swallow all over again will be the painful part.
Oh, and cross your fingers you don't bite down on the jewelry :-D

Not really. You have nerves on the top and the bottom of your tongue, not in the middle, so you only really feel the entrance poke and the exit poke. It hurts less than biting your tongue. The healing period is usually more painful than actually getting it pierced but nothing you won't be able to handle. I say go for it! You'll love it!

Don't listen to what ever anybody else says I know from experience, I got my tongue pierced and I also have a child and I will say without a doubt the aftermath is comparable to that of childbirth and I will never again in my life pierce my tongue unless I was in a life or death situation.

When I got mine done, I didn't even feel the actual piercing. But within an hour, it started to swell and throb and within 2 hours, I couldn't talk, eat, drink - nothing. It hurt like hell. Lasted about 3 days. Then it was just sort of sore for a while.
To be honest, not a piercing I would recommend. I only had mine for about 2 years, screwed up my gums and teeth.

I didn't think the piercing itself hurt at all. The healing process, however, can be a lil rough. I couldn't eat solid food for almost a week. It was awful! I had to take ibuprofen every 4 hours for at least 4 or 5 days to keep the swelling down. I love the piercing, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was just a lil rough not to be able to eat normally.

depends on the person. i would imagine it would because the tounge is solid muscle. but if the piercer is good and quick it shouldnt be to bad, its still going to hurt some though. not to metion your tounge will be swollen for a few days afterwards. im not tryign to scare you out of it, tounge piercings are super cool, im just lettin you know its not going to be fun
