Its just that my hair is very dry through chemical and heat abuse. I have been told that by leaving my hair alone to grow naturally, it will eventually regain good condition. This advice includes not washing with shampoo but just rinsing with water. I know that to begin with, my hair will feel greasy etc, but I just wondered how long it would be before it started to feel better? Has anybody done this before? are there any other real natural men or women out there? I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks

i think your hair is prob a little stressed. instead of not washing your hair for weeks at a time, try only washing it 2-3 times a week. only wash the scalp. when you rinse the shampoo out it will run over the rest of you hair for a quick wash (keeping it somewhat free of build up). make sure you use a really good conditioner and make sure to condition it every day when you shower even though your not washing it every day. let it air dry rather than using a hair dryer. that just causes more damage. and when you get out of the shower apply a leave in conditioner to your hair.

for best results try using a hair mask or a really good leave on moisturizer. if you go to Sally's Beauty Supply Store they have a really good cholesterol treatment for your hair. they also have many really good re-constructors.

here's the website (with intensive treatments, & reconstructors) if you would like to check it out before hand, so you can get an idea of what your looking for!

if you use the right products and conditioners you'll see results almost instantly, without having the horrible stench and the greasy/dirty feeling that unwashed hair will give you.

i hope i was able to help some! Good Luck! :)

Another thing that you may want to know... Zinc, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Biotin, & Amino Acids along with a few other vitamins are very important in healthy hair growth. there are some really good vitamins specially made for hair growth. A really good one is called "Shen Min". It has just about every vitamin known for healthy hair. Not only will it help your hair grow but it helps restore your hair back to its original form (color, thickness). :)

I can't believe someone told you that. They probably got that advice from another misguided person. Do you know how much build-up you will have if you don't wash your scalp and hair with shampoo? You already have damage and breakage from over-using chemicals and heat--if you follow that bad advice, you'll only increase hair thinning and falling out, less strong and very poor health condition of hair. Keeping your hair in GOOD conditioning means you MUST keep your hair and especially your scalp clean. You must use shampoo. There are plenty of great quality shampoos on the market so just choose one that would do what you need. After you cleanse your hair and scalp, you should deep condition or use a leave-in (unless your shampoo has a conditioner in it also). It is good to trim hair at least two-three times a year or more taking 1/4-1/2 inch off ends every time. Some people have long hair who don't trim at all, but the down side is that they maintain fried, worn and extremely fragile ends. Stop using chemicals and heating appliances often and whenever you do use them, use a product that will protect your hair (Check if your conditioner does or doesn't prevent damage also ).

I have heard that it is 3 weeks before the oils naturally produced by your scalp start to "clean" and condition the hair. On the same note, it will start to pong a bit if you dont use shampoo.
I would suggest using a nourishing shampoo, and condition once a week, try to avoid styling products and heat (invest in some pretty hair grips / bands) and just see it though. I would guess in 6-8 weeks your hair will be naturally beautiful, shiney and healthy again....well worth the sacrifice in my view - then you can go back to styling, bur just go easy on products and chemical ingredients to maintain the condition of your locks.

Go to a good hair dressers and ask they're advice. They should be able to advise you on your hair type and how to look after it, ie which shampoo and conditioners etc. Wash it a few times a week, not everyday. Let it dry naturally and lay off all the styling products for a bit.

what shampoos/conditioners are you using? What hair type? All these things need to be taken into consideration. There are some weird things you can put in your hair. I've never tried them, ranging from mayo, milk, and lotion. Not together.
Personally I'd try different shampoo and conditioners. I had one that worked but it was discontinued... Wait 3 to 4 days depending on how bad your hair gets to wash it. When rinsing conditioner out in the shower, I'd say don't rinse it all out.

good luck

Get a protein treatment from Sally Beauty Supply, it will help a lot. Only use it once a week then once every 2 weeks, eventually you won't need to use it at all. If you need to flat iron your hair, use a thermal protectant spray prior to flat ironing. Deep conditioners helps a lot too, go to a salon and they will help you find a good product to use. PLEASE wash your hair though!!! Whoever told you that is not very smart!!! Your hair will look and feel greasy and smell.. Find a dry/damage shampoo but please do wash it! Good Luck!

First, go and smack whoever said not to shampoo your hair really hard.

Are you back? Good... and I should hope they cried.

Now I am assuming that you are Black. Black hair tends to suffer a huge amount of abuse because we too often are trying to alter the texture. We need to work WITH our hair and not against it.

Step One :NO MORE CHEMICALS - no relaxing, no jhericurl, no texturiser. Just determine not to put anything into your hair that will alter its natural curl pattern. And no coloring either, not even henna .

Next, wash your hair with a baby shampoo.Every time you wash use a baby shampoo, condition with a deep condtioner like Queene Helene Cholesterol or apply a half cup of mayonnaise. Rinse with warm water, not hot. Never wash your hair without following up with a good deep conditioner. This is key to its recovery.

Apply a leave-in lotion. I find that Luster's Pink Oil is a fine leave in lotion for natural, unprocessed hair. Apply after you towel dry. Avoid using any hot rollers or a hot hairdryer. Spray on a light sheen oil like Luster's Oil Sheen Spray , or Soft and Beautiful Oil Sheen Spray after dressing your hair.

You may simply have to take the plunge and cut your hair very short to rid yourself of the damaged mop. It took me several weeks to convince myself to do it, but now I'm very happy with the results. Now I wonder why I ever let myself be talked into relaxing my hair!

If you want to use a range of products, you can't go wrong with Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine or Curl and Shine ranges. But you must keep the hair routine quite simple - baby shampoo, conditioner, light daily oiling of hair and scalp, wear a silk bonnet or wrap to sleep,no heat on your hair.

If you do decide to relax your hair again - and I really hope that you DON'T - then stick to a children's formula, starting when your new hair is long enough to pull into a single ponytail

Baby your hair! Handle it as tenderly as a piece of expensive delicate silk and it will reward you many times over.

And while waiting for your new mane to bloom forth, eat a diet very in high fruit and veg ,drink scads of water daily (shun soda, and not all that much juice, but WATER) and get into the exercise habit. Keep yourself at peak health and your entire body will reward you - glowing skin ,glossy hair, strong nails- hey, you can't lose! Just pretend to yourself that you've gotten a modelling contract worth $ 500,000 and you need to keep looking your absolute best or be replaced .

Have fun,and KEEP IT REAL!

thats a bad idea. u should only wash your hair once a week and use moisterizuing shampoo and conditioner. when u go to buy shampoo make sure it says "moistuering shampoo. and use a weekly deep conditioner. your hair will improve that way. if you do not wash your hair the oil from your hair mixed along with the drityness will clog your pores causing your hair to stunt its growth

talk to your person who does your hair, and stop blow drying or only blow dry but dont use a curling iron use one or the other, and find out which conditioner is best, I think I use biogenel or something like that from the beauty supply and use shampoos and conditoners made specifically for color treated hair or neutrogena claen and clear shampoo and conditioner or just switch to organic shampoo these rock, go to whole foods to find them.

Please wash and conditon your hair. Your hair will not improve if you stopped washing your hair, if anything it will become worse. Buy products for dry, brittle damage hair.

The reason why we need to shampoo our hair is for the removal of oils, dirt and skin particles, environmental pollution and other contaminant particles that gradually build up hair.
