Not really. I know a family from Nicaragua and they fled their country several years back. There are militants there and their is constant strife.
Better choice would be Costa Rica, Valenzuela, or some parts of South America.

It's a GREAT vacation spot. BEAUTIFUL country, the nicest people you'll ever meet...I could go on and on! I recommend you go to Playa Barcelo at Montelimar--it's a 4-star restaurant on the coast that's just amazing. It has a petting zoo, bungalos, and about 10 pools. Plus, you pay for the room and then food and drink are included for the whole stay.

I highly recommend you visit Nicaragua. Go see the islands in Lake Nicaragua, go canopying, and spend some nights in Managua and enjoy the nightlife. It's really an amazing country.

To a previous post: The family that fled is one of many that fled during the Revolution...20 years ago! It's stable now and doing much better. It's shaping up to be an awesome country.

I love visiting Nicaragua.

Managua is a horrible dangerous city but there are beautiful spots.

Try San Juan Del Sur, Matagalpa, Granada, and Corn Islands.

Granada is a historical town with lots to see and do. It's the hot tourist spot. There's the volcano Mambacho and you can glide down the side of the mountain on cables (like Superman if you want).

San Juan Del Sur is absolutely beautiful with surfing and lots of places to eat lobster and relax.

Matagalpa is beautiful and up high so its not as hot.

Corn Islands has snorkeling on beautiful beaches and it's on the carribean coast so everyone speaks (creole) English.

Like anywhere else in Central America (or, the world for that matter) you have to be careful about what you're doing but as far as getting to see amazing things for cheap it's wonderful.
