Could be a stress reliever or a habit that the person just sinks into and doesn't notice. Could be they have problems with their ears being plugged up and that's why they are chewing gum and talking louder.

Have you ever noticed how the sound of the snapping gum almost sounds the same as the palm of your hand as is strikes there face?

Oh, you've chomped on one of my pet peeves. The only thing worse than stepping on a wad of bubblegum is seeing and hearing someone smack it like a cow.
I was sitting in church one Sunday with my son (he was about 9) and he pointed to the pew in front of us and asked, "Mom, what are those people doing with their mouths?" Before I even looked I said, "Well, they're probably singing."
He said, "No, look, their jaws keep going up and down."
I looked and it was hysterical - a row of about 8 people were all chewing gum. We got the side view of those jaws chomping ungracefully. It was a hoot. We both had to hold in the giggles and snorts (who me? snort? how uncouth?!)!!

Ever been in a seminar or meeting where they have the dishes of wrapped, hard candy? People think they're being "quiet" and take about 20 minutes to open the wrapper...I want to turn around and tell them "Just rip the GD wrapper off already and end our suffering!"

It is a habit which is not easily broken. Loud mouths do not always snap gum.

I don't know about improving memory but constant chewing starts the insulin process going. If you haven't really eaten anything for the insulin to deal with then it can mess up blood sugar levels and possibly lead to hypoglycemia or diabetes.

You're question isn't a very good one. In any case, Did you know chewing gum is said to improve your memory!?

I know what you mean. I hate it when people make so much noise when they chew gum. Constantly smacking and popping it.
