Hi my cat, age 7, has had this weird bump underneth her chin that comes up out of no where. It's black in color and the size of a small pea and I believe she irritates it, or hits it, then it bleeds. After a few days it will go away. But sure enough, maybe a month later it will return. It has appeared about 6 times so far. Is this something I should be really concerend about, becasue she really doen't like going into the vet. and what is this? thanks M

It's kitty acne. I have had 2 cats over the years that have had it.

My vet said that using plastic bowls contributed to the condition as bacteria settles on plastic more than metal. Some cats rest their chin on the bowl when they eat.

I would recommend changing your cats bowls to metal if you are using plastic and also make sure that they are cleaned quite frequently.

The things you are seeing is the equivalent to a human blackhead and will not cause the cat any problems.

It sounds as if she is having an allergic reaction to the dish(s) she is eating and drinking out of. Some cats can get cat acne, which occurs on cats chins. Switch her eating and drinking dish from what you are using to stainless steel, and you should see an improvement.

If this problem still occurs she may have some type of skin infection and you should take her to the vet. Good luck and have a good day!

If it looks like dried blood then it could be "feline acne" my vet told me thats what my cat had, under her chin. Believe it or not they say its an allergic reaction to plastic. Mostly from rubbing on it when they eat. So I changed her bowls to ceremic. She has had it afew times since but maybe its because she found something plastic? I would call and ask your vet.

Yup...in agreement. Feline acne from plastic bowls. If you get stainless steel or ceramic the bump will go away. :)
