my mom sprays the areas where he peed with vinegar. it neutralizes the smell so they won't pee there again. (no guarantees on whether or not he pees anywhere else!)

How old is your dog? How long have they been prone to messing in the house?
Determine if it is happening because of health or behavioral reasons. I'd start by ruling out anything medical. Have your vet run a few tests to see if they have a urinary infection or to see if they may be suffering from kidney stress brought on by other meds, old age or worse, cancer. If that isn't medical, see if more frequent trips outside and making sure they go when they are outside helps. Also treat the area with a product called Nature's Miracle. It is an enzymatic cleaner that completely removes all odor and stain that might cause a pet to resoil the same area. If you determine it's behavioral. You have to catch them in the act and interrupt their pattern. If you do it any later its too late and they won't associate your anger or correction with soiling the rug.

Mix some citronella oil with water and spray the dog with it when he urinate on the carpet, not afterwards. While he is bussy. Then also spray the rug, it takes the smell away.

How old is the dog? When training my dog I took him out for "walks" very regularly. Moreso as a young pup since they seem to have to go more often. Training dogs is a matter of positive reinforcement of good behavior and repetition. Ever heard of Ivan Pavlov?

if your dog isn't fixed it will unrinate on the rug so your best bet is to get your dog fixed then it will stop doing it on the rug and then start taking your dog outside.

Buy a long chain and put him outside. That was the only choice i had. Mine kept peeing on the furniture, chair legs. He just tried to mark everything. Now he is in the yard. Boy did he mess up.

it sounds cruel, but it works really well-you stick his nose in it, because then the residue gets on his nose and he has to lick it off. My dogs stop very quickly after doing this.
