Good luck, finding one in good shape, but they can be a fun car to drive. I had one for a while, But my favorite in that style was the Chevy Vega station wagon.

That brings back memories. Years ago, I had one of those pinto wagons with the stripes & porthole quarter windows. There were some cases of the fuel tank rupturing on rear end impacts. The first generation mustangs had a similar problem, since the gas tank doubled as the trunk floor. On a severe rear end impact, the trunk interior and sometimes the passenger compartment could get sprayed with gas.

Good luck finding one, I haven't seen a pinto on the road in years.

the original pinto's had the gas tank to close to the rear of the car and yes, they could explode if a spark was created during impact.
the pinto, while it was considered an economy car, was proven to be pretty unreliable, gutless and today, you probably won't find any, not even in a recycle yard.
maintenace parts would be available, but things like body panels, seats, etc.. probably not.
the catch is, good luck finding one that's an even running postion.

My sisters first car was a light blue Ford Pinto. We were on our way to work one morning and the motor exploded on the freeway. Scary!!!

Because of the outrage of them catching fire Ford did a recall and installed a plastic shield. You should be able to still find them but it will be a search. There has to be a Pinto owners club. Google it and i bet your dream will come true.
