Awww, that's so sad. That baby will probably get ear infections and end up with asthma. There is no way that she doesn't know that it is bad for the baby. They teach this stuff in elementary school now.

Anyone can argue that it's just propaganda put out by the anti-smoking campaigns all day but no one can know that our lungs are made to supply the body with oxygen and smoke not only clogs the lungs and interfers with their function, but has many other harmful effects on the body. Also, babies bodies don't detox as well as adults. Their little bodies actually use all that you put into them where as our bodies don't need all we eat so toxins aren't processed the same. It's more complicated than that and I'm no doctor, but it is fact that the smoke is more harmful to that baby than it would be to the average adult.

Well... it boils down to two factors.

Wisdom and Consciousness

If a person is ignorant of the health implications of smoking then I doubt that it can be deemed a 'sin' on those grounds. True, the person would need to be somewhat dim not to be wise to the unhealthiness of smoking but its a possibility.

If a person is not conscious that the second hand smoke is effecting the child then again it doesn't seem 'sinful' for similar reasons.

However presuming for a moment that she was aware, she isn't exactly doing the child any favours and is effectively causing harm. If second hand smoking is not, to a degree, sinful when the perpetrator is both wise and conscious of the consequences then neither is the more direct abuse of a stubbed cigarette (or the tossing of said cigarette) upon said child. Harm is caused. It seems more of a neglect... an easier pitfall to fall into.

In any case it can be classified as an unpleasant thing to practice, especially since the child has not the choice to avoid the nicotine fumes.

Thats how I see it anyway...

The definition of sin is to fall short or miss the mark of perfection. I notice people don't like to use the word, as if to say you sin is a condemnation. The truth is we all sin.
Secondhand smoke has been shown to do harm in a multitude of ways. So is it a sin to to harm to another human? James 4:17 says that if a person knows how to do what is right, yet does not, it is a sin for him.

Nonsense. Second hand smoke is no more dangerous than car exhaust. Should we institute mandatory repirators for children within 200 yards of any street? Over sheltering them until their little immune systems atrophy is a sin. Kids are tougher than people give them credit for.

its not a sin but it is very immoral to smoke around kids since second hand smoke is more deadly than first hand smoking is. if i saw that lady i would have pulled her over and wrote down her linence plate number and reported her to child protections on the grounds of abuse

It's not a sin, but that woman should certainly be punished for what she did! Long-time exposure to smoke might cause the baby to have endless smoke-related diseases.

yes its a sin... it makes me so mad when i see this... i work at a restaurant and all the time i see couples come in with their young kids and even babies... and I'm like what the **** is your problem... i know your killing yourself.. but that doesn't mean you need to kill your child.. can you not wait till you get home to smoke.. or at least smoke away from the kid..

Harmful to their health, yes.

But you would be a lot more happy in your own life if you dropped the concept of "sin", which is generally meant as "anything I judge as wrong".

I totally agree with you, but I don't think it qualifies as an actual sin. It is definately a bad thing to do though.
