I started taking prozac and I'm not sure if you can drink or do drugs while your on it (I don't) but I'm curious if you can. Especially since I'm going to a club this weekend.

If the doctor that prescribed you this medication did not make it clear that you never, I mean never drink or do drugs while taking anti depressants then I'd find another doctor.

Go online and read up on this medication and any medication prescribed to you.

Can you read the lables on your prescription bottle?

The answer to your question is NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!

1.) alcohol and drugs can screw with your brain, and if you are already having chemical imbalance issues causing depression or anxiety, alcohol and drugs will only make it worse.

2.) Prozac Increases the effects of alcohol or other drugs. You might be drinking what you normally drink and end up getting alcohol poisoning.

3.) Everything you put in your body goes through your liver. Prozac, alcohol, any drug... it all goes through your liver to be filtered out of the blood- then those toxins stay there and eventually could cause major damage to the liver. Last thing you want is to need a new liver.

Now, I'm not saying don't go out and have fun. I'm also not saying do't go out and not drink. Just skip the day's dossage if you are going to drink. But only do the alcohol if you're going to a club- don't do any other drugs. Then give your body a rest before taking the next dossage of prozac. (only if you absolutely have to drink at the club.

I have been on a few different antidepressants. If you have just started taking Prozac, and it is easy for you not to drink, then I highly suggest not to. I have a hard time not drinking, so I have often mixed alcohol with my meds.( I'm not very proud to admit that).
Your body definately needs to get used to the meds before you even try to consume alcohol while on them. I can't remember what it was like with Prozac, but I know I drank too much, too soon while on Lexapro and it was UGLY. I felt as if I was dying the next few days. Your liver can only process so much!
Anyway my doctor told me a couple of beers once in a while is ok, but it is obviously better to avoid it all together, if you don't miss it. I'm sure your road to recovery will be much shorter if choose to abstain from the booze. Good Luck with everything.

You really shouldn't, especially if you've only just started taking it as Prozac alters your mind and so does alcohol. Alcohol is a known depressant and could make you feel a lot worse. This is the same for any illicit drugs that you are taking/planning on taking only moreso because they could also have a chemical reaction.

If you still feel the need to go out drinking, speak to your doctor about other ads that might let you drink.

Since you are depressed, and Prozac is an antidepressant, and alcohol is a depressant, what do you think will happen ? Basically, a seesaw of moods after you drink. It's not worth it. (You may try a glass of wine or a drink with a half-shot in it, but be prepared for the mood swings after).

Most psychiatrists would say no.

Don't add any other drugs to the mix...weed, caffeine, stimulants, amphetamine (diet pills) etc. Stay on your usual sleep pattern or best possible...

OK, I was going to ignore this question but I have to say please ignore Noelles advice to dc Prozac on days you take a drink. Drinking very moderately & occasionally while on Prozac is not as bad as stopping & starting the medication based on alcohol consumption. SSRIs are meant to be taken continually & weaned off slowly. Skipping doses will cause side effects & should be avoided...especially if you are drinking. Consuming illegal drugs is just plain stupid. It is obviously unregulated & untested & can cause all sorts of problems.

NO. And if you have questions discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist. One small drink would probably be okay...but clubing with many drinks...no way and absolutely NO DRUGS unless prescribed by your doctor. Please, use common sense when taking these medicines. Look up Prozac on WebMD or RXList for information.

No, you shouldn't consume alcohol, or other drugs, when taking prozac. Didn't your psychologist tell you this? If not, he/she is a very bad psychologist.

Alcohol is a depressant- and no, it is contraindicated on ANY antidepressant- drink ginger ale until you come off your psych meds. You can have a serious medical emergency if you drink while on antidepressants.
