Microsoft Outlook: When I save a new contact, how can I setup the phone number format to 123-456-7890...?

Also, how do I stop it from automatically inputting the area code when I input a 7 digit number?

This is inbuilt and i dont think we can change the format.

You can remove the area code by:

go to contacts
click on Actions on the top and click on Call Contact-> new call
Click on Dialing Properties button.
You will get a box containing area code called "My Location". Double click on it to get another dialog box where you can modify the area code.
