Will I be able to know the address of the person who has stolen and used my checking?

I lost $500.

I didn't mean that I would find him or her. I meant would the police be able to find out.

Unless the person gets caught, you will never find that out. If it were that easy, then the police would be able to do it.

By the way, the courts do NOT protect the identity of a criminal. Criminal procedings are public record.

Not if you live in Kosciusko County Indiana. I had some one break into my house,steal my check book and went on a check writing spree. I never found out who it was or if they got caught. That was over 6 years ago and I'm still battling check and credit issues!!!

Go to your bank and tell them someone stole your checking account information. The bank will close the account and give you a new one. NEVER give your checking account number to people you do not now. Did you file a police report?

it would be part of the police report and public knowledge unless it was a minor.

But normally criminal court will apply restitution so there will be no need to file a civil case normally.

And of course you don't go there and see them, that can destroy the case against him and most likely end you up in jail.
