I grew up in Cadillac and used to swim and play in Lake Cadillac. It was thick with clams but no one ever thought to take them home
for a clam bake like they do on the Atlantic coast. Why?

Illegal to take any freshwater clams or their shells from any michigan body of water (excluding zebra muscles)

any body of water near michigan is polluted because of the toxic waste that in injected into the air. when it rains in michigan you are not getting fresh rain you are getting acid rain, which can cause any type of living animal in the water to become mutated and or diseased. basically you can get very sick if you eat the clams or anything else from there.

I believe that the mussels from Lake Cadillac & Lake Mitchell are Zebra mussels. I wouldn't recommend it as they filter the water and also the chemicals in the water from pollution. (not quite as bad as the previous poster, sheesh!) ps. I used to live in Mesick.

There are real clams in Michigan? Never heard of fresh water clams. Never saw any. Are you speaking of fresh water mussels perhaps?
