As of 18 I been supporting myself and my parents won't be paying for my schooling and whenever I show their W-2 forms they make too much money to get fiancial aid. So how come with me being 21 do they ask for my parents info?

I don't live with my parents and they don't claim me... I've been living on my own since I was 18 and I've been supporting myself. I tell all the couselers that when I go to get fiancial aid... and they say it's a federal law to get them... and everytime I get them they say my parents make too much money... it's so confusing. I don't get it.

because the financial aid agencies want to know if your parents are still claiming you as a dependent. even if you have been on your own since age 18, that doesn't mean that your parents aren't still claiming you (i don't mean to say your parents would be that deceitful, but some people are) as a tax deduction. Also, since it is harder and harder to pay for your own education, many students have attempted to fudge their financial aid applications and say that they are independent, when in reality their parents are still helping them out. sadly, most middle class students are put in this position, thanks to the restrictive financial aid policies adopted back in the '80's in America (thanks to the Reagan/Bush I administration).

In order to circumvent this education catch-22, you will have to apply for emancipation. contact a law office in your area and discuss this with them. Your college financial aid office should be able to give you information on this option as well. Best of Luck!

Because financial aid doens't think of anyone independent until that person is 24 or older.. If a student is 21, they will still need parents information. Sorry.

The only reason you would have to show your parents W-2 is if they claim you on their taxes as a dependent. If they don't then you do not need to provide their W-2, only yours. I have been through the same thing.

Most financial aid programs, assume rightly or wrongly that students are still claimed as dependents until age 23. You must prove that you are self supporting (utility bill, rent payment, etc.)

I agree with some of the other comments that were made, you specified that you wanted a XXL nightie for your wife, she came back with a thong that she probably bought for herself anyway, she's testing and teasing you. That wasn't a mistake. Don't reimburse her, she bought them for herself, that's why she wants to try them on....

If your parents are still claiming you as a dependent, they need their tax info. Once your parents take you off as a dependent, you can do your own thing...

If you are still listed on your parents' tax return(s) as a dependent, they will still ask. You need to make sure that you're not listed as a dependent--ask your parents to remove you from the list--and I think that will make the difference.

Just explain your situation to financial aid, and they should get you taken care of. They probably just assumed you were in a different situation.
