Who's right if Islamic custom requires women to wear veils over their faces, but our gov't requires faces to be visible (for security reasons)? Should we, as a society, have a say in the matter?

First, the Qur'an does not say a woman must cover her face. It only says she must be modest and cover her hair. (Orthodox Jewish women do this, too).

The tradition of covering the face is strictly a cultural thing, only done by some Islamic cultures. It is not demanded for the sake of religion.

I think the head covering should never be objected to. But, the covering of the face is another thing---------------------------.

I think so. You're probably referring to the muslim woman who wanted her Florida driver's license picture to be taken while she wore a veil.

Driving is a priviledge, not a right. If she wants to wear a veil, let her haul her butt back to whatever third world country she came from and have her picture taken THERE with a veil on.

Its time these goofy muslims started integrating into American society if they're gonna stay over here.

I generally don't have a problem, except if they are entering a bank, or a place of business, or in the work place of a Western country with Western cultures.

If they want to wear it just walking around, or at the park or in their homes, in their own personal time, they should be free to do so. However, they shouldn't expect social acceptance in a Western country. Generally, it's difficult to trust people who don't show their faces. They will be treated with suspicion in Western countries.
