Would you change your mind if you knew that using cord blood could save a loved one like an infant son or daughter, or would you let them die because of your religious beliefs?

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure cord blood & stem cells are 2 different things.
Right now, cord blood can be used & banked for maybe 3 or 4 very specific & very rare disorders that are known to be cured by the use of the BABY's OWN cord blood.... you're not using the cells for anyone else, so blood related disorders, can be cured w/ cord blood if I recall, like leukemias etc.

STEM CELLS, are an entirely different matter... they are plain little cells that have not differentiated into bone, skin, stomach, brain, nerve, fingers, livers, kidneys... you take these little stem cells & can turn them into anything.

I personally have no problem w/ stem cell work, especially when frozen embryos just get thrown away in the fertility centers.... why not use them for saving lives?

I would rather die than know my life or the life of a loved one was saved because an innocent child was slaughtered so that i could have embryonic stem cells. That isn't a religious belief, it's my personal belief in right and wrong. If i were an atheist or a muslim or a hippopotamus my opinion wouldn't change (I'm really a christian).

You assume that as a Christian I would be against that? Where did yuou get that idea? No baby has to die to get cord blood. And stem cell research is alright if it is controlled, and unborn babies are not being killed in order to do the research, or obtain the blood cells.

Any stem cell research that does not take the life of a human being (including frozen embryos) is legitimate. So far there have been no treatments discovered using embryos, the only results have come from adult stem cell research. This should give you a clue. We cannot play God when it comes to medicine.

The stem cells obtained from adults and cord blood is inferior to fetal stem cells; they are the only truly universal stem cells.

Christians approve of cord blood stem cell use. They approve of adult stem cell use. It's embryonic stem cells that are wrong. No use of embryonic stem cells has had positive results. The tests have all been disasterous. Whereas adult stem cell use and cord blood stem cell use has had glorious results.

Yet, some scientists are pushing HARD for embryonic stem cell use. I even have to give up my favorite band because they are ill informed and pushing for embryonic stem cell use.

I support imbilical cord blood stem cell research since you do not kill the embryo for the cells. In fact, I urge every woman to donate cords when she gives birth. I do not like embryo stem cell research, but imbilical cord research I support.

That does not require the death of an infant. I am Christian and I am for Stem cell research as long as no babies are harmed.

My problem is not with U.C. stem cells. My problem is with government (taxpayer) funding of stem cell research regardless of the source. There is no authorization in the U.S. Constitution for public funding of scientific research.

Nothing is wrong with using cord blood - nothing at all has died from the use of cord blood.
