My parents have both passed on and I often think that the best thing I could have ever offered them was to spend more quality time with them. Just going for walks or taking them out to dinner and talk. That was the most grievous issue I faced after they passed. If only I would have spent some quality time with them to talk about things.
Material things are all well and good too, but a gift that lasts a lifetime is getting to know who my parents were. Also if I would have spent more time with them, to me anyway, it would show them respect for the time they gave me growing up.
Often times I wonder about what their life was like before I was born or how my mom and dad met, things like that.
God Bless!

I am 28 years old and I bought a beautiful photo album, I am the oldest, then there is my sister (22) and my brother (20), I went through the family pictures (without them knowing) and made a family album of us 3 growing up, when my mom opened the first page she started crying, The first picture was me (I was born first) etc. The day I was born, then I put in pictures of me and my mom and dad together in about 4 pages, then I added my sisters newborn picture, then I put in pictures of me, sis and mom and dad together leading up till little brother was born then I put pictures in it to lead up until I had my first daughter and my parents became grandparents for the first time. and we can still add to the photo album and my mom cried through the whole thing, which in my family that always means you gave the best present!!!!! Good luck!

When I was 16 and my younger sister was 8, we cooked my parents a candle light dinner for their anniversary. It wasn't anything elaborate, just spaghetti w/ meatballs, salad, rolls and a cake from scratch (I have been baking since I was 11). But they love it and to this day they reminisce about that day. Oh I forgot, we also served them Welch's grape juice in wine glasses!
