Atkins is great, but it's not intended to be a "diet" it's meant to be a lifestyle. I've lost weight, I feel better, my aches and pains have gone away. You really need to read the book to see how it REALLY is done, not how the media portrays it. Most people slamming Atkins simply don't know anything about it.

I lost 4 stone over 5 mths, 3 years ago and not regained. I was being treated for insulin resistence and new diet has reversed effects-no longer need medication. I had kidney problems, that gone away too. My blood pressure also stabalised. Migraines stopped.I have never been more fit. Have regular checks cos of my previous health problems and better health than ever.

My advice? Avoid caffiene (stops carb cravings) Read Atkins book-if you understand exactly what is happening to your body when reducing carbs you`ll understand how it works, maybe boring reading, but essential. You`ll learn carb content of most foods so wont have to constantly check. You`ll lose weight if done correctly which will give incentive to carry on.

A mistake most people make is to cut out carbs altogether. This is wrong and wont work and will make you feel unwell. You need to have some carbs-but the right ones.
I went from size 18 to size 10. Still look twice when I pass a mirror! Its more of a new lifestyle rather than a diet. For me it wasnt too difficult as was always a big meat eater. Contact me if you want any further info

I know a number of people that have followed it - including myself and yes you do loose weight at first, however because it is unbalanced it is difficult to stick to - it is a diet, that is why it is called a diet. It is actually very complicated to follow properly which is why most people fail at it. Yes, most people do feel grotty whilst they are on it.

What the lady said about diabetes is true though. For people with carb problems like that it is good.

For most of us though good old 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, low fat meat, high fibre carbs like whole meal spagetti, bread and rice. Skimmed milk or low fat yoghurt. Low fat cheeses. Oily fish twice a week to get those omega oils. Cook from scratch so you know exactly what is in your foods, this way you also avoid the additives that exacerbate the weight gain problems like ingredients in shop bought sauces.

Don't do it. It mucks up your body which needs carbs to function properly!
It causes bad breath, constipation, headaches and makes you feel like you're dying. Some people will tell you its just getting the "bad" carbs out of your body. When the body has no carbs it uses the muscles as a source of energy and gradually "digests" them causing weakness. This is a dangerous diet, in my opinion. There are much safer ways to lose weight.

well bascially you eat hardly anything except for meat and cheese. You lose a ton of weight super quick and you feel great about yourself....

THEN

you suddenly decide that no human can live off only those foods, you are tired of the migraines and you decide you will slowly incorporate other foods into your diet

THEN

boom, you are fat again. you gained back all the weight you lost plus some.

save yourself the time and trouble and do weight watchers or the south beach diet...both are effective and work

Not good!

Basically it starves your body for carbs, and you will loose weight but it will be mostly muscle and water weight. When you go on a diet you want to loose FAT not water or muscle otherwise you are just ruining your metabolism.

Just learn the right amount of calories to eat to maximize fat loss.

I have a book, "the carbohydrate addicts lifespan program" by Richard Heller, you do eat carbs one hour a day because we all need carbs to be healthy but the rest of the time of the day you eat special vegetables and meat and salad. Its safe because you do eat carbs. just not a lot of them.

yeah i did it...lost some weight but felt like ****....listen to these people...headache nonstop!... i've tried that michael thurman diet...its good but hard to stick too,( but you eat all day, which is cool)....especially if you work or have no one to motivate you or your totally addicted to salt...lol...like me....

your better off just eating lower fat, lower carbs, more fruits and veggies, lean meat and cut out extra calories you know you don't need.
