Pan sear - skin side down - then place in oven with a little lemon juice squeezed over the top - add fresh herb (dill, fennel etc) back until just flakey. Time will depend on the thickness of the fish - should be slightlly pink on the inside - pull from oven and let stand for 3 or 4 minutes b4 serving.

Basically, what everyone else said is accurate. Turn the oven on approx 325. And it shouldn't cook longer than 20 min. generally.

For the best recipes, go to www.allrecipes.com. Search for recipes with salmon. Look for the ones with the best ratings. Its a great site!

Also, salmon tastes better when served with the right accompaniments. Try buttery white rice, a nice crisp salad, and some kind of french bread, or roll.

Ginny, here's one of my favorites.

Oven-Roasted Salmon, Asparagus and New Potatoes

1 pound small new potatoes, halved
2 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 pound asparagus, trimmed and sliced on the diagonal, 1-inch long pieces
1 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
1 strip of lemon zest
2 garlic cloves, chopped
salt & freshly ground pepper, to taste
2 salmon steaks (10 oz each), cut about 1-inch thick
1 lemon cut into wedges

Preheat oven to 400F. In a large, shallow baking dish coat potatoes with olive oil. Arrange potatoes, cut side down, in the baking dish and roast for 10-12 minutes, until the potatoes begin to brown on the bottom. Turn the potatoes over and roast another 10 minutes until browned on top. Remove dish from the oven.

Toss asparagus with chopped dill, lemon zest, garlic, salt and season with pepper. Add asparagus mixture to the potatoes and stir to combine.

Push vegetables to the side of the dish to make room for the salmon steaks. Return the baking dish to oven and roast the salmon and asparagus 10-12 minutes, or until fish is just cooked through.

Remove the skin and center bones, and arrange on individual plates before serving. Garnish with fresh dill and lemon wedges.

Take salmon steaks, each about 4" x 4". Place in a glass baking dish about 2" apart. Sprinkle with lemon zest and fresh dill and bake for about one hour, or until done. Do not cook too long or the fish will dry out. Serve with broccoli or whatever you like.

this is the best way that i like to cook my salmon..i started doing it that way since its about the only way i can eat it... i used to hate eating salmon before until now....i usually put it in a pan with some garlic and olive oil,(don't worry about the taste of the olive oil, u don't taste it when you're done), along with thinly diced onions and leave it simmer for a little while.. then turn it over until its almost done where i add some white wine and lemon juice, along with a little parsley(chopped) and a little season salt... itz almost like doing a scampi .... it taste wonderful... try it sometime...
