Reject the devisive and destructive psychological influences of our priests and politicians.
Practice love and kindness to ourselves and others. Then we will know God through the peace this creates in our lives.

Educate them out of primitive superstition.
cull the world population as the maximum sustainable population (without environmental problems) is something less than 1/2 billion.
However, if we continue to enjoy life, the planet will not change significantly for around 250-300 years. That is long enough for our children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. Do we really care beyond that point?
at present, we're the first generation in history to be asked to give up our lives in order that future generations won't have anything to do. Does anybody think that the Romans or the Victorians cared 2 hoots what happened after they were dead? Like hell they did!
The most sensible thing (assuming we're not allowed to reduce the population to sensible levels) is to get on with life and enjoy it. The future, as ever, has to take care of itself.
If humans become extinct within the next 500 years, does it matter? Something else will evolve to fill the niche. Sooner or later, we'll become extinct whatever we do.

In answer to your question about how can we get the world to work together. It would need to be a huge event. After and during WWII thing's became a lot better, mainly because we had seen the destructive force of the Nazi's and had banded together to fight a common enemy.
Of course it didn't get better for everything, Russia and the communist satalite states suffered immensly. But that is why it would have to be something pretty big to make everyone join arms against it. Not necessarily a war involving Guns and Bombs, but a fight of some kind, against an evil that can't be ignored...For example
Poverty.
Third world debt.
Intolerence.
Extremism...etc etc
But maybe I'm wrong, these thing already exist in abundence.
I don't think the world will ever truley band together to better itself.
For our children to be safe it is up to the individual parents. Love, respect and kindness, those are usually good things to have if you are planning on having kids.

It will take Regret or Inspiration. Either way, the trigger needs to be an event big enough to make everyone sit up and take notice.

Get rid of all religions. They are making all the mess. Also lets get rid of Bush and Blair. The could be slightly better without them.

Abolish all Religion (Not Spirituality) - Immediately...
Replace Religion with common sense & mutual respect...
Its simple when you think about it - Won't happen though as the GOD of Religion is Money!

We each have to start with ourselves. If we work to be a better person it will spread. Kind of like if you smile at someone it forces them to smile back?
