the dog is constantly licking his paws till they are soaking wet and also with his saliva turning dark in colour (he is white). I have used bitter spray from the vet/pet stores but he doesn't mind it. Don't know what else to use. The Vet took tests and the dog is in excellent health. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.bb

Your dog has one of the three types of allergies that dogs get. 1) Inhalent allergy like dust,smoke, pollen 2) food allergy- something in the ingrediants of the food like chicken or egg is causing an allergic reaction 3) flea allergy he is allergic to the saliva of the flea.with animals allergy's react in the skin, like itching and bumps. so they chew on the paw to relieve the itch. You should keep him on flea prevention like frontline every 30 days and try a hypo-allerginic food like IVD Duck and Potato or Purina LA,HA or ZD. Your Vet can do an allergy test by drawing blood and sending it to a lab to tell you exactly what he is allergic to. But it is expensive to do this in my area it runs $300.00. Ask your vet about these things.

Don't know if this is OK ask vet first but try a smear of English mustard or pepper sauce or marmite.
I've never known anyone 2 do this and don't know if OK so

Dogs do lick them self's 2 groom them self's so i wouldn't worry about it

my gfs mums labrador does this too and we have tried everything from marmite to lemon but we found that he hates the taste of aloe vera creams the ones that smell strong he cant stand the taste, u can get this from good pet shops and from in-excess, long as u remember to put this on his feet every few hours he will soon get bored of tryin to lick that he will ventually leave them alone it took a month for her dog to stop but now he doesnt touch them even tho we are no longer putting the cream on his feet. good luck

plce a little bit of idone on his paws. the taste is so so bad, it will do the trick.
if anything, buy him booties and place them on him every time he starts to lick himself and leave them on for a while.
eventually he will get so sick and tired of the distraction, he will stop doing it but then again might start doing something else.

If he is healthy and your vet is sure he does not have doggy athlete's foot, I think you should not prevent him from licking. My dogs love licking themselves. That is the way they groom themselves.

You need to take him to the vet, because more than likely, he has an allergic reaction to grass or something else he has been walking on. you could use tobasco sauce also

Why would you want to?
it is a natural instinct for dogs and cats
to groom and clean themselves.

icecream bucket on thier neck so they cant reach it and an anti fungal cream/spray on the affected area. our staffy had the same problem
