Anyone know how long does parvo virus take to run its course? my pup is hospitalized at the moment and it's been 4 days since he was sick. I heard if a pup can pull through for 4-5 days, he's more likely to survive the battle. is that true?

I did talk to the vet and he even suggested euthanasia since my pup isn't showing much improvement. (the listlessness went away though) And he's made 4 days so far! I'm hoping he's strong enough to start making antibody to fight against the virus. The reason I'm asking this is because I want to hear more opinions from people whose pup survived this brutal virus; and the duration the virus takes to run its course.

The survival of any puppy from parvo depends partly on how early it was diagnosed and care began.

I had a puppy who had parvo once. The first day she showed signs of not eating, getting sick and being lethargic, I got her in and the vet said it looked like parvo and ran the test. My pup stayed at the vet for 2 days on an IV and then was healthy enuf to come home on antibiotics after the fact. Within a week, she was back to her normal self.

Unfortunately, parvo is one of those diseases that kills many of the dogs it infects. I hope your pup recovers from this illness. I'd say to stick it out if he's showing improvements of any kind to give it a little more time to see if more show.

Sounds like your pet may be out of the woods, but would suggest taking Vet's advise and if the pup needs to stay at hospital a little longer then leave him.His chances of surviving will be better if left until Vet gives ok to bring him/her home.

I'm not sure. I got a puppy and she had parvo unfortunately and passed. I hope your dog pulls through, and make sure to get him vaccinated. Good luck.
