I am thinking of buying this for my daughter for Christmas. The age range is 9 months up, and she is 18 months. I wanted to know if this would be good for her age, and if your child actually learns from this "learning toy"?

Again, its the VSmile Baby System, not the Leapster or anything else. I have knowledge with the game systems for the older kids.

My daughter has one and does very well at it..but she is 4. She had it for about 2 years and did sort of ok at 2 but didn't really understand how to do the games until she was almost 3. Now she loves it. It's great because it really makes them think and use their hand eye coordination. Much better than the blood and guts video games they will play when they are teenagers! This one actually makes them smarter! Also make sure you get the games that are appropriate for her age level. Some are 3-5 years and some are 5-8 years. I actually dont believe there are games for an 18 month old...but you can try the easiest ones.

I actually like LeapFrog products and would get the Leapster MAX or whatever it's called. They are very educational and fun. They are also great for road trips. I just have the regular leapster, but my little girl loves it. And no, I don't just make her play it so I don't have to spend time with her, we play it together. Being a stay at home mom can get "boring", and you need things to do that are fun!

I wouldn't buy it. Doctors say children under 2 yrs. of age shouldn't be watching television and a toy like that just promotes it. It's not good for their eyes and the moving pictures move way too fast for their brains which causes their brain to try and "keep up" with the moving pictures which can lead to ADD or ADHD.

Look, at 18 months it doesn't take much to intertain them. She could learn more by sitting and looking at herself in a mirror than playing with an electronic toy. The simplest things teach them so much. At 18 months old, everything around her is new and exciting and anything can be a "learning toy."

We have the normal VTech Game System for our 4 year old and it is awesome! Teaches her alot of things. I wouldn't look at it as a waste of money or too much TV as this is educational and with the world being so high tech, this is really how most kids learn by repetitive things and electronic teaching devices. I say go for it. I am sure you have spent other money in the past on something that actually turned out pretty cool.

I am not planning on buying this for my baby. I would rather sit on the floor and play with her. I have a step son who is addicted to video games and his mother can't get him to play outside. I don't want to start this habit when she is just a baby. I believe that a baby learns by doing and touching and I don't think that pushing buttons are the same.

I think it's a waste of money. In a few months, let her check out websites designed for youngsters that age.
