My sons birthday is at the end of September. My mom says as long as you send them by six. The cutoff in the city I live in is Dec1. He will be 4 for 2 1/2 months while in kindergarten. I would like to keep him at home until he is 5. I want to know if I can do that with out getting in trouble. Is it that he is eligiable and that it is up to me to decide if he is ready. My daughter who is sixteen now. Went in to school early .(before 5) We lived in Massachusetts at the time and their cutoff was Sept 1. I made the decision to send her early but later regretted it. (When she was in high school.) I dont want to make the same mistake with my son. I dont feel my son is ready and think he would beneifit from the extra year at home. Is this an option? (Where the cut-off is Dec 1) Please let me know.

I know I can call the dept of education but I was wondering if anyone knew without having to call them. I know I am going to get alot of, If hes not ready send him to preschool from the dept of ed. I do not want to send him to preschool, I feel there is a lot he can learn from being at home. I just want him to have social interaction and I am afraid he wont get that if I home school. If I do decide to home school, Does anyone know how you go about it?

Absolutely you can keep him home another year. Especially since his birthday is that close to the cut off.... If it was a matter of weeks, I'd say send him, but since it's months, give him the year.

I artwork as an instructor's help in a youthful learner kindergarten (YLK) in Arizona. The YLK is for babies who turn 5 after the decrease of date of August thirty first yet turn 5 till now December 31. Our type is a 0.5 day kindergarten jointly as the common kindergarten instructions are finished day. on the beginning up of the school twelve months all of our pupils have been very immature. many of the scholars matured in the time of their time with us. in the adventure that your son is cognitively waiting he might marvel you and mature jointly as interior the lecture room. i will have a similar subject in 2 years as my son jointly as be turning 5 then. His misses the decrease of date. i will maximum possibly permit him pass to the YLK type.

Instead of asking us semi-iliterates on Yahoo, why don't you call up the dept of Ed ? their reply might be of a little more value than ours

If you feel he is too young you could always consider homeschooling until he is ready.
Best wishes!
