I have to disagree with most comments here that say pets are soulless creatures. That's kind of a harsh statement to make - are pets not as valuable as people? Why wouldn't they have souls? Pets are certainly more pleasant than some people out there; they comfort us and are loyal companions. I believe that pets do have souls and when they die, just as people, they make the transition from the physical into the spiritual plane. There is a very good book about this topic, by Sylvia Browne, who has fifty + years of experience being a psychic and a spiritual researcher, so I find her claim about pets having souls to be by far the most credible than any other claim by individuals who simply have no substantial basis for their comments.
If you're really interested in learning more about the afterlife of animals, you may want to consider reading this book:

The correct answer is:
We Don't Know!
Wow, look at all these people giving definitive answers as if they've all returned from the afterlife as experts. People claim "No, pets don't have souls", and they provide absolutely no trackable reference to the bible or otherwise to make their point.
Funny stuff, eh?
Some say "the bible makes no mention of it" as if this is proof that they have no souls. I guess I shouldn't believe in dinosaurs, Native Indians or the solar system either.

They get buried, or put ina box and dumped somwheres. Then their bodies rot, stink, become homes for maggots until after a month to 10 weeks, they are returned to the ecological system they came from. I found one on the back street behind my house. Stunk like something "VERY" dead for a good while, then somebody ran over the box spreading its innards every where which stunk even more, yada, yada.

I think dogs get to chase cars made out of dog biscuits and cats get to play with yarn made out of string cheese. And the same for all other types of pets birds, fish, etc. And they don't know we're not around, when we get to them in heaven(?) or wherever it's like we've just come home from being at work.

...................Rainbow Bridge..............
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

As I believe that pets do not have a soul, their bodies go back to the earth the same as our physical bodies when we die.

They are ground up and made into 'Pet Food' for the other pets. You really didn't think we were wasting all those yummy cows on cats and dogs did you.
