I think alot of it has to do with culture and how connected your religion is to your culture (I'm not talking about faith, faith is not religion, faith comes from God alone in my opinion)

I just answered a question where many hard core atheists were saying that they were "absolute moralists," they look at the way that society functions and see the need for rules (morals) to govern us all.
Continuing on with that thought, look at the way that we are created (yes, I hold created) individually. Sex was physically given for reproduction, Man + Woman. If you deviate from this you make STD's.
Now carry that on, a baby needs a mother and a father. I have friends that come from broken and incomplete homes, and they truly miss the mother/father relationship that they once had, and take years to get over it (even secular psychologists will agree with me here). That is why marriage is important, aside from the very obvious case, love.
And lastly, sex out of marriage, aside from the danger of STD's, sex is not as light a thing as our culture would like us to believe, it is harmful to go on random flings (although I think that alot of modern psychology is bull, they will agree with me on this too).
And Christianity will not "shun" you, Christians believe that these actions are wrong, and that a person that is a true christian will refrain from these actions. But there also is the factor of forgiveness, some of the best Christians I know have come from rotten pasts.

Firstly Religion does not shun the people it prohibits the DEED.Because that what religion is about. It is about barries, excercising control and knowing the difference between right and wrong. its about spiritual upliftment, and knowing that if u do comit these acts u have to sincerely repent and u shall be forgiven. Its about believing in the after life and knowing about ur purpose in this world. it is about recieving absolute peace and pure joy by doing something as seemingly boring as praying.
Man however can always always make a choice. To each his own. If one chooses not to believe than it is up to him to decide.
And sometimes if a person in their heart knows and is so sure and clear of the fact that yes, their religion is the right religion they will try their best to stay away from whatever or even a little of what their religion commands. For some religion is a way of life. They find that everything is to be gained by adhering to these laws and even if they dont they do see the wisdom behind it.

Well? Why do you follow Christianity if that is what it calls for?
My religion doesn't shun people for choices they make that do not hurt others. I grew up in Christianity and left, that was one of my reasons, although my church did not shun gays and they do not shun those who have children out of wedlock...I'm sure not all the old ladies approve, but they are accepted in the church. I still occasionally go back to see the people and they have not shuned me for choosing a different religion.

Lots of people want to hate, whether they are religious or not.
Culturally in times gone by solely same sex relationships were frowned upon because it limited procreation and children were a commodity. Women were portrayed as the property of thier husbands and therefore to have a child outside of wedlock made you unclean.
These days some people still adhere to similar outmoded beliefs.
In answer to the other part of it, a lot of Christians believe in Leviticus where it states "a man shall not lie with another man" however, the same book says that if your brother dies childless that you should marry his wife to give her children - not sure how many of them believe in this one!
Why do people hate?
People suck!

I certainly wouldn't want to be part of religion that shuns people for those things. Church isn't a place where perfect people get together and pat themselves on the back for being so perfect. It's a place where imperfect people come to help each other become better. We all have something that we're struggling with, they're just different, and church should be supportive in helping people with whatever it may be.

Firstly, I am a trully Christian, I believe in God, I believe in Jesus but I do think that actually religions are created by humans. God is there but the religions are created by people and it's just a sort-of rituals to worrship God. So it depends on where you were born, what kind of place you live in. No religions are bad or wrong!
I have gay friend, who does free-sex but still he goes to church. First, I also thought the way you think, but the he told me that having a religion is like having someone to lean on. Once, you do bad things or sin, you will be forgiven. I know it's not the way that God wants you to believe in Him. But I am sure that one day, my gay friend will turn back and follows God trully. It's just about time.
For now, let him/ everyone who still does bad things (well, actually everyone still does bad things, including to us, even though we don't do sex nor a gay) follow a religion (like going to church, etc..) cos it's a gate to follow Him trully.

Christians disagree with each other vehemently on countless subjects. Christianity also changes with the times (very slooooowly) although it denies that it does. I can understand how a gay Christian might believe that the homophobic Christians are (1) misinterpreting the bible and (2) giving in to Satan's influence to be intolerant bigots instead of Christlike.

My dear sister in Christ, when one does not approve of homsexual behavior or sex outside of wedlock that is not being judgemental, that is following the Bible, God did not abolish the Law when Jesus died, He only completed it, and now we can be forgiven of sins, but if we do not recieve that forgiveness, by acknowledging our sin and repenting from it, then we are still under the Law and therefor must be perfect.

Because first of all we do not shun anyone. As Christians we can not condone or condemn a person that is not our job. Second as a christian you should know that we don't hate the person just the sin.

Good questions.
Why would *you* want to be part of a religion that perpetuates 2,000 - 4,000 year old myths, rather than looks at factual evidence of how the world works?
You have made a few big steps towards tossing off dogma and predjudice held by many christians...now keep using that wonderful brain of yours and use logic and reason to discover the truth about your religion. Great start.
