It hasn't contributed much for hundreds of years. Islamic nations used to be more advanced than western European ones, but not since 300 years ago with the beginning of the decline of the Ottoman Empire.

Islam kept science (and, for that matter, personal hygiene) alive during the Dark Ages when Christianity was persecuting both. When Europe finally started coming to its senses, Islam had preserved much that otherwise would have been lost.

My own favorite contribution of Islam to the modern world is "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam," a long, wonderful poem with more good advice about how to live and enjoy the world than any other religion has ever produced.
