Technically known as the Argiope aurantia, otherwise known as a black and yellow garden spider, or a "writing" spider, because he weaves a line of white X's down the center of his web. Actually the author of Charlotte's Web was inspired by this arachnid.

There is a writing spider in the children's book Charlotte's Web by E. B. White. My kids have the movie. The spider draws attention to Wilbur the pig by writing "Some Pig" in her web.

we get 2 or 3 writing spiders a season down here in Georgia... we typically see them in lmid to late summer. they dont really "write". they just make really pretty web designs.

yes we had one.
they spin a web.
they write the secrets of the universe, but we cannot decipher it.
