With a blood test that shows your red and white blood cells, will that test show if you have cancer?

No, it will show if one has leukemia, actually not show, but the results will be so abnormal, that the physician will run more test to determine if leukemia is the cause of the abnormalities or not. But for general cancers, such as: stomach, lung, brain, chest, abdominal, pelvic, etc. No blood test can determine or even lead one to suspect cancer, unless it is very very advanced. Thanks for the opportunity to respond to your question. Hope this helps.

Possibly, but only cancers of the blood (leukemias) or the bone marrow (lymphomas). RBC-levels may increase in cancers producing erythropoeitin (stimulant of RBC-production), which may arise from the kidneys or elsewhere. There may be some nonspecific rise in lymphocytes (a kind of RBCs) with most of the cancers. There is a test--Erythrocyte-sedimentation Rate (ESR, ie., the time RBCs take to settle down in a glass tube), which increases in infections, inflammations & some chronic disorders, like cancers.
I don't think much more info can be gained about existence of a cancer in the body from such simple tests.

It is probably just a routine blood work, where if there is a problem the doctor can correct, like enimia for instance, you lack iron in your blood, the doctor will be able to read the results of the testing and take it from there. You should never be afraid to ask your doctor what the test is for, they have to tell you.

I hope everything is good with you. LOL

It can, but its not likely unless the cancer has spread thru your whole body. I had several clean blood tests, but do have kidney cancer
