Obviously you can't introduce a new colour just for one element because it will stick out like a sore thumb no matter how well it matches or how beautiful a colour it is. If you're able to change the curtains, opt for a very pale icy-blue, maybe in a fabric with a sheen to it to give the feel of luxury and because a sheen will seem to reflect the light from the window a bit. Dark blue tie backs will help pull the colours together better. If you're not permitted to change the curtains, I would suggest finding a print fabric with blues on a very pale background (off-white) and creating a valance that would be able to be put up (and later removed) without holes or permanent change of any sort to the wall or curtains.

Whatever fabric you introduce at the window should be repeated in the room -- throw pillows, a table runner for the coffee table, and also use the colour from this fabric for a couple of decorative items like a large vase, lamp(shade), or whatever you can find that works with your tastes. Good luck.

Try a yellow. Pick a curtain that is a solid yellow with a hint of blue (maybe a stripe). I would get a sofa cover for the couches or maybe a throw with a nice print (with the yellow in it). A few pillow. Don't be afraid to mix patterns as long as they look good together. The idea is to pick items out that will make the eye go to that particular item and not the blues. I would also try to find a throw rug to break the monotony of the floor. You could put yellow artificial/fresh flowers in a red vase. I have one red item in every room of my house, it draws attention more than any other color. Hope this helps

Can you change out the curatins? The best way to break up the color would be to take a sample of the blue with you and head off to the fabric store. If you can find fabric that has a pattern in it that complements the blue than you're safe. Use that fabric for pillows, the curtains and pull colors from that fabric to help guide you in the colors you use for any other accessories. Buy an area rug to help break up the blue carpet.

First, I would go to Walmart to the dollar a yard table, and pick some samples to take back home to try. Something with a yellow base, maybe a floral or plaid, or some other modern design depending on the style of your place. Also white curtains, with some nice shiny red accents
pieces around the room would be another idea.

I would use lighter shades of blue and cream to break up the darkness, but don't just change the curtains. Pick some pillows, picture frames/pictures, and other random decor, so that the curtains don't stand out like a sore thumb. If you pick varying shades, it adds class!

Go with a lighter color to offset the dark colors in the room & use a lot of accent pieces.

Good Luck!

I like the idea of just using cream or white and colorful artwork and lampshades, or if you are into it, you could go for a nautical theme. Use red & yellow to go with the blue. Decorate with anchors and such.

I would go with a crisp white....you need to attract as much light as possible with all the dark shades existing. you also may want to consider some colorful artwork for the walls.

good colors with dark blue are silver, copper, white. You can add some aluminum lamps, tables, etc if you like the techno look.
