If my one year old son already refuses plain milk, then is it okay to flavor it with strawberry syrup?

He's been on milk since 11 months old, and is now starting to not drink it. He takes a sip then throws his cup or bottles across the room. He is 13 months now.

Just try him on it.
You are his mom, you have go through these first years with a 'trial and error' point of view. Have a go with the flavouring, and see if it helps. This is quite a good idea, I may try it with my 17 month old since she hates plain milk too!

I assume if he is only 1 year old you are just now starting to introduce the plain cow's milk? I wouldn't resort to flavorings right away. It can take a child a while to get used to and accept a new food. If you were breastfeeding, you might consider mixing it half expressed milk and half cow's milk for a while and see if he likes it better that way.

I think its fine if you flavor it with syrup. My daughter was the same way at that age and I did the samething. I ran it by my doctor and she said it was ok. The important part is that they are getting all the vitamins and minerals that come in milk, and the syrup isn't taken any of that away

My son refused any type of milk at about 1. He said "milk is for babies". So I just give him cheese instead. Milk is not essential. Calcium is. I won't do the syrup thing, I don't want him used to all the sweets.

Doctors might would say no because of the sugar content, but I think the benefits of drinking milk would override it. I'd put as little in as you can in order for him to drink it. The Nesquik powder has a lot of extra vitamins, too! (at least the chocolate does) My daughter drinks lots and lots of choclate milk, and she is fine!

YES! my Dr. actually recommended it if my child wouldn't drink it plain. Chocolate worked great too. Just make sure you use Whole milk until he is five. My Dr. said the extra fat in it has been proven to be great for brain growth.

yeahh! surely it would be. && strawberrys are good for you.. so i dont' think addiing a liitle strawberry kick to the milk would be a bad idea.

but if your really* worried about it maybe ask a dr. because that's the safest bet. BUT your kid really needs to be drinking milk && if the only way hes goin to drink it is to add that strawberry kick to it. then go for it. I think its a WONDERFUL idea

hope i helped =]]

Why are you making him drink milk? Cows milk is not meant for humans. Calcium can be found in alot of other foods.

I think so. Just don't overdo it - too much strawberry milk makes mine vomit. But as long as he's drinking the milk, I say go for it.
