If you want to be a sniper you cannot be an officer, is that true? If so, Why?

It is true. As an officer, you may have subordinates who are snipers, but in that capacity, the mos is designated for enlisted personnel. This is not to say an officer can't shoot off a round or two, now and then, just to keep his marksmanship skills, honed, and if a raghead happens to get in the way of that spent round, oh well!

Snipers themselves are not officers, ever. Sniper/Spotter teams have had Liutenants attached to them in the past, but that is no longer a practice.

In the infantry, the low-ranking oficers are platoon leaders. You're not going to have a platoon leader carrying a sniper rifle.

Officers are for leading groups of soldiers. Snipers are loners, in charge of no one but themselves. You don't need an officer to sit alone and snipe - you need officers to lead people.
