I would have to say the former. Which is to say, I try and live a life without regrets.

I can remember opportunities I lost because I let them slip by. I can remember doing things for which I felt guilty afterwards. And in most of those cases, I've discovered that I'm the only one who remembers them.

And whether or not I profited from those decisions, I have to live with the regret forever. Why should I wish to make myself suffer in the future?

Some of the most disastrous decisions I've made in my life are ones I'd do again in a heartbeat. They were the right thing to do, and that easily stacks up against anything the world subsequently did to me. Neitzsche once suggested that the greatest punishment and reward could be to be forced to live your life over again a thousand times without being able to change anything. Would the life you are living be heaven or hell if you had to do it all again?

THAT is what I ask myself.

I'm not a believer in philosophy. Right and wrong are already known. If there's a victim or a jeoparty, there's a wrong.

Consider a man on a lie detector. There is a PHYSICAL REACTION THAT CAN BE MEASURED by a machine if he lies. That's proof positive that anyone (other than a psychopathic monster) knows right from wrong instinctively. This holds true if you learn the history of Isreal since Neanderthal lived there. ALSO, if you're totally ignorant of it.

I'm convinced there's a deity a lot more because of what he DOES than something written in a book. Giving us an instinct and a brain is one of those miricles.

the think is i dont need to "ask" in my head for most decisions I make. i kindof already know what is wrong and right because i've taken many ethics classes and have been broguht up well. i've already thoguht about how i should respond to something and how my decisions will affect tohers.

but when pondering the goodness/evil of the world, i may have to stop and think about the direction of society or leaders or values are just and right. i must expand my worldview to make such decisions about the world. you have to really think about how everything is connected and how one outcome affects soemthing else.

I just ask what is the right thing to do. I have patience most of the time. I am virtuous without being righteous.

I ask myself one question: If I do this, will I be able to look at myself in a mirror without flinching and sleep comfortably at night?

Your conscience will never steer you wrong. God gave it to you for that reason.

Not typically. I just try to justify the means and weigh the consequences.

Definitely. If I didn't, I wouldn't be using ethics at all.
