Gen. 17:5; 32:28; 2 Kings 23:34; Acts 9:4; 13:9 - for example, in these verses, we see that God changes the following people's names and, as a result, they become special agents of God: Abram to Abraham; Jacob to Israel, Eliakim to Jehoiakim, Saul to Paul.

Saul persecuted Christians. He was a Jewish religious leader.
On the road to Damascus he saw a bright light that blinded Him and a voice saying "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" He knew it was Jesus and fell to the ground in humility. He believed because Jesus appeared to him. He was taken to see a man that Jesus had told in advance that Saul would be coming to see. This man prayed and some days later he could see again and Jesus called him Paul.

The bible doesn't say when he began calling himself Paul. Only one place in the bible does it mention both in the same verse.

Then Saul, also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked the sorcerer in the eye and said, "You son of the Devil, full of every sort of trickery and villainy, enemy of all that is good, will you never stop perverting the true ways of the Lord? And now the Lord has laid his hand of punishment upon you, and you will be stricken awhile with blindness." Instantly mist and darkness fell upon him, and he began wandering around begging for someone to take his hand and lead him. Acts 13:9

Saul was a pharisee on the road to Damascus I believe. He was one of the ones who persecuted Jesus. But God knew Saul's heart that he persecuted others because he thought the pharisees were right. So Jesus revealed himself to Saul and Saul believed. Jesus renamed Saul, Paul, because of the meaning of the name. From there on, Paul became one of the most on-fire, apostles. There are lots of times where God renames someone because they are a new creation in Him.

Are you asserting that Saul of the previous testomony died and grew to alter into Paul? Or Saul of the hot testomony died and grew to alter into Paul? The bible says no person would be thrown into the lake of fire till the 2d resurrection on the top of the age so he quite did no longer journey the "lake of fire". Are you asking if the easy he observed on the line to Damascus became God in the variety of fire?

Saul was changed to Paul through change of accepting Jesus Christ.
Anytime we accept Christ, we are a new creation. We leave our old nature behind and pick up the new gift.

There are other instances in the bible of name changes. i.e. Abram to Abraham, Sari to Sarah. ect.

Makes me wonder what my new name in heaven will be.

Paul was a Roman.
