That depends, are you looking to come here to scrounge off the great British people and our wonderful welfare state or can you offer something to British society, pay your taxes, not blow us up and intergrate.

It's the official line, so it is duty-bound to be correct and has been checked out by Home Office lawyers etc. for accuracy and is updated continually.

Don't trust the info on Law firm sites: it's often out of date. Human Rights groups frequently get the facts wrong, sometimes deliberately.

the home office site is really comprehensive (see answer above) but don't try phoning... no one ever answers and you waste money listening to a recorded message. if you want to contact them the best route is email... but you will still need to wait a couple of weeks for a reply.
