I recently started having a problem in Windows 2000 Pro. I can't open MyDocs or Control Panel. Also, I can't open Windows Explorer when I right click Start Menu. It sounds like problem with announcement by MS of update messing with HP and NVidia, but I installed latest updates and still can't open.

to the guy putting down Win2k and trumpetting win XP I would suggest you stop misinforming people when you do not know what you are talking about.
The OS you have in mind in win ME not win2000.
Win 2000 is the best OS from microsoft so far, bar none.
If you are running XP I bet my spare PC using an overclocked amd 2500 is 60% faster than yours at chewing vids whatever money you have thrown at it.

As to this question, if you have installed a bad driver or have any corrupted files the easiest way is to reformat and start again.
If you have set up your system properly and have a reasonably fast PC you can get back to normal in less than 45 minutes flat. If you suspect corrupted files you can reinstall win2k on top of itself and you won't lose your settings, just time if you find your problem comes from a bad driver as you won't solve your problem.

This subject in lots of cases occurs once you're surfing a folder containing XviD video clips and Explorer tries to create thumbnail previews of the video clips utilising an old version of the XviD codec it extremely is put in. whilst it fails you get an blunders message approximately Explorer encountering a topic with xvid.dll and having to close down (domicile windows Explorer has encountered a topic and desires to close). via fact the xvid.dll report hasn't been used for somewhat some time its presence on your gadget skill which you have nevertheless have been given an old version of the XviD codec put in. merely installation the main up-tp-date version of the XviD codec over the old one won't restoration the subject because it would not do away with the old archives and registry settings. You first might desire to uninstall all previous variations of the XviD codec and make certain that the subject is going away. then you definitely ought to deploy the main up-tp-date version of the XviD codec.

Try starting Windows Explorer by "brute force" - Click Start, Run, then type explorer.exe into the box and hit the enter key.

If that doesn't work, you have a big problem.
